Nepal Institute for Urban and Regional Studies (NIURS) and Brihat Property Solution jointly organized a Knowledge Sharing program on “Housing Development Practices in Nepal & South East Asian Countries” on 21 April 2019 at Hotel Ambassador, Kathmandu Nepal. The major objective of the program was to share knowledge on housing development practices of Nepal and southeast Asian Countries. Speakers from different sectors shared diverse knowledge on National as well as international housing development practices. Thai Real Estate Business School (TREBS) was the main international knowledge partner of the program. Speakers from TREBS Dr. Sapoon Ponchokchai and Dr. Kanock Abhiradee shared their international experiences highlighted the added value of cooperation among institutions globally.

A speaker of the program Mr. Om Rajbhandary, Chairman, Brihat Group, shared the scenario of housing development in Nepal from private sector perspectives. He also shared different stages and issues during the development of housing in Nepal. Another speaker Er. Planner Om Dharananda Rajopadhyaya, Board Member, NIURS, presented on Policy Approach of Housing Development in Nepal. Mr. Rajopadhyaya focused on National Shelter Policy and other policy interventions on housing and associated sector of Nepal.

Dr. Sapoon Ponchokchai (Board of Director, TREBS) presented on successful housing policy in South East Asia. He also shared market surveys and analyses of housing sector in Kathmandu. Board of Director of TREBS, Dr. Kanock Abhiradee presented on policies towards urbanization in Asia. Another speaker of the program Prof. Han Verschure presented on some international examples of sustainable cities. He also shared on status of Nepalese cities in terms of sustainability.

After all the presentations, a short question-answer session was conducted where speakers answered questions raised by participants of their concern.

Chairman of NIURS, Dr. Jagadish Chandra Pokharel thanked the speakers for their insightful and informative presentation and thanked all participants for being part of the knowledge sharing program.  He also proposed continued networking and collaboration with TREBS in the future.  The program was successful in bringing experts from the diverse field and share knowledge on housing development in Nepal and southeast Asian Countries.
