Project Description

An event entitled “Dissemination workshop on syllabus of Risk and Inclusion Sensitive Land Use Plan (RISLUP)” was organized by Nepal Institute for Urban and Regional Studies (NIURS) in collaboration with Nepal Urban Resilience Programme (NURP) on February 16, 2022. The event was conducted on hybrid mode; virtual interaction through Microsoft Teams and in physical presence at Hotel Vivanta, Lalitpur. The event was attended by the experts and academicians related to urban planning, disaster risk management, and urban design and conservation, socio political analyst, and representatives from ministries and line agencies of government.

The event was organized to share outcome of a study on “Mainstreaming Risk and Inclusion Sensitive Land Use Plan (RISLUP) on Higher Education of Built Environment Professionals”. The study was carried out by NIURS with an objective to instill the idea of risk and inclusion in the academia and professional practices of urban planning. The output of this study was directed to develop (i) a concept of RISLUP integrating the measures of Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and inclusion of disadvantaged sections of the society in Land Use Planning, and (ii) a syllabus of RISLUP for Masters level degree in Urban Planning and a syllabus for short term training course of RISLUP for the practicing urban planners, architects and engineers.
